Volunteer Trainings
LFCA conducts periodic training sessions throughout Connecticut to introduce private sector attorneys to the process of juvenile court representation particular to the role as attorney for the minor child (AMC). Matters in the juvenile court are confidential and closed to the public. This training is intended to help attorneys feel confident and knowledgeable about juvenile law and procedures by describing common situations and providing guidance through unique issues like identifying and advocating for a child client’s priorities.
Cases filed in the juvenile court by the Department of Children and Families are assigned to LFCA by the Office of the Chief Public Defender (OCPD). The LFCA Program Director reviews the petition and other documents received from OCPD, develops an initial case approach, assigns the matter to a suitable, trained LFCA pro bono attorney, and guides and instructs that LFCA attorney throughout the life of the case. All children and youth involved in the cases assigned to LFCA are at-risk, suffering from physical, emotional, medical, or other forms of abuse and neglect.
The training will start promptly at 9:00 am. You will receive training materials and the link to the training prior to the training date. The training will last roughly 5 to 6 hours and is eligible for up to 6 hours of CLE credits.
